Hair Extension Methods

Remi Hair
Remi Hair is cut from the head and specially marked ROOT END FIRST. Throughout the entire manufacturing process, the hair is carefully kept in order of root ends first, translating into cuticle lays all in the smoothed downward position. This tedious Remi Process serves several purposes to eliminate formerly common problems such as matting, lack of sheen and shine and a more natural looking appearance with tensile strength of the hair. Again, this procedure makes special notation to careful handlers and guaranteeing that the hair cuticle will all be laying the same direction when the hair is completely serviced and ready for use.

Great Lengths
Great Lengths is the unparalleled Rolex of Hair Extensions. Used by Hollywood favorites such as Halle Berry in Cat women, Celine Dion, Carlie Simon and many others, it is the most natural looking, feeling and moving hair extension on the market. The bonds utilize a man-made synthetic keratin protein which bonds with the protein molecules in your own hair. Great Lengths patented technology for the application of 100% human hair strands, eliminates all the limitations presented by other systems. No glue, no wax, no damage. One can utilize Great Lengths for length, volume, color enhancement, highlighting and low lighting or simply to update your current style. Cinderella Extensions
The Cinderella Extensions are similar to that of Great Lengths and have attempted to compete within their market. The key word here is attempt. While this method is similar, the bonding material is solely heat attachment and it is this writer’s opinion that it does not sustain the wear durability that Great Lengths performs. The hair is not as good a quality as Great Lengths in this writer’s opinion and tends to feel dryer which causes much more tangling and knotting. The hair is less expensive however, it is apparent to the eye that the hair is less bouncy, almost plastic in appearance and tangles easily. The bond wears moderately well and can last up to four (4) to (5) months. There is no certification requirement by Cinderella Hair to purchase their product.

Hair Dreams or Hair Sensations
Hair Dreams is a unique process developed and applied by computer controlled modulator. Extremely similar to Great Lengths in all ways with the exception of the bond material. Hair Dreams bond is titled “thermoplast” and consists of nylon based material. The hair is very high quality and moves and shines extremely well. The bonding material is clear and in most cases does not show if applied by a properly trained technician. The only drawback to Hair Dreams is the colors tend to be very cool and presently the company is weak in warm tones which are highly utilized in the southern states. The hair is extremely straight. The hair can be permed, however, the company does not warranty the hair if permed either by the stylist or by the company which is a problem for salons who promote a product with some sort of quality control. The bonds wear well and can last up to six (6) months. Hair Dreams, aka, Hair Sensations will not sell their hair to any salon or technician who has not completed their education seminars which last two days.

Ultra Strands
Like all of the methods aforementioned, they are a strand by strand method. The bond is comprised of a different substance but is similarly small and can also last up to six (6) months. The costs should be approximately the same as Great Lengths. There is no certification requirement for Ultra Strands

Euro Locs / Hair Locs
This method should be carefully considered before proceeding. This method is attached by using a metal tube which is like latch hooking a strand of hair to your hair strand and then the metal tube is crimped with a pair of pliers. It can be uncomfortable and if technician is inexperienced severe damage can occur or an extremely short life span of application can occur. This writer has seen severe damage caused by the metal tube cutting the hair shaft at the point of application or when follow up color or chemical application, the hair was completely severed. The hair can be worn for four (4) months and reused once which can save money but in this writer’s opinion is not a favorite.

Mega Extension a/Ida Fusion
Mega Hair was found in the 1980’s and was the pioneer in hair extension. Utilizing a stick wax, and then higher tech polymer base, this method could be used with any type of hair which is purchased on a weft and cut into tiny strands. The adhesive is then applied to the tip and attached to your hair strand. This method can work moderately for people with thick and heavy hair but sheds like an Afghan. If you have extremely fine hair, I strongly discourage you from trying this method regardless of the inexpensive price. The weight of the hair and adhesive is dangerous and most likely will pull your hair out due to the heaviness of same. One can purchase any texture of hair for this method. No certification requirement

Ultress by On Rite
Ultress extensions are a real treat for those people with baby fine hair that is not a candidate for all other methods of extension. Ultress is attached by hairs being implanted into a synthetic skin material which bears a medical adhesive base and bonds to each other sandwiching your hair between strips. It has many uses, and works well with most hair cuts and styles with the exception of hair less than four (4) inches. It is not damaging whatsoever is comfortable and blends in ideally with your own hair. The cost is substantially lower than any other form of hair extensions and durability is anywhere from two (2) to three (3) months. The material used is a co polymer construction. The top side is a thin, specially blended Polyurethane and the back side is formed with a special thin silicone. Co Polymers are fused together and the end result is a thin, flexible, natural second skin like surface. The high quality human hair is injected for the most natural appearance. The visual is that of a real scalp like material with live hair growth and natural patterns. The base is very thin and natural. There are no ridges or bumps. Ultress is semi-permanently attached to the hair for a period of 6-12 weeks using medically approved grafting adhesive.

Braid and sew in Extensions, aka, ‘WEAVE”
Your own hair is braided in a long horizontal strip (aka, corn row) tightly to the scalp and a strip of wefted hair is sewn into the braid. This is a very damaging method in most cases with repeated use, can and ultimately will cause “traction or tension balding in those areas. May work moderately well for clients with extremely coarse or strong hair but is usually uncomfortable and generally causes some form of hair loss. Shedding and mildew can be a problem if the client fails to properly dry the hair as the sewn in weft is difficult to dry and care for.

Bonded Extensions
Natural hair is sectioned in horizontal parts and wefted hair strips are glued directly to the scalp. The bonded adhesive is usually latex based but there are many formulas of glue. The method does not provide for good swing of long hair but can be used when very little or thin hair persists. Attention must be noted so as not to cause further weakening from removing adhesive on a monthly basis.

How do I know if Hair Extensions are right for me?

Medical issues are discussed, as well as other matters such as previous chemical damage, hormonal issues and alopecia medications. None of the above in and of itself would prevent you from receiving extensions, but you can be assured that a thorough assessment would be made.

How much does it cost?

The pricing varies from customer to customer. Certain particular areas can range from $150.00 upward. The complete pricing will always depend on what you are trying to accomplish. Volume and Length starts at $765.00. Full head pricing depends on color blending, length and amount of hair utilized. Full heads range from $1,600.00 to $3,500.00.

How long does my hair have to be?

I have over 19 years experience in extensions and have developed techniques that allow me to have natural looks by applying the extensions to hair that is 3 to 4 inches in length.

How long does it take to apply the hair extensions?

It generally takes 4 to 6 hours for the entire head to be done. Although the time seems extenuous, you can bet the conversations will be interesting!

Will the hair and color match my own hair?

I have great skill in matching hair textures and colors. The extensions themselves come in a variety of colors, textures, and lengths up to 2 feet. The colors have a complete range from many shades of blondes, coppery reds, rich chocolate browns and black. I usually use several color blends to achieve a natural looking match.

Can I style my hair as I usually would?

Yes, you can pull it up in a ponytail, French twist or up do of your choosing. You can hot roller, flat iron and curling iron the hair, the same as your own. I usually recommend the proper shampoo and conditioners to extend the life of your extensions. I also provide customers with a brush best suited for the type of installation customized for them that is included in the price.

Is there is any guarantee?

I personally guarantee the extensions for three (3) months. If at any time during those three months the extensions loosen or come out, I will replace them at no cost.

How long do they last?

I guarantee the extensions to remain securely in tact for a minimum of three (3) months. Generally most of my clients get 5 to 7 months with only a minimum of maintenance. There are many factors which control how long they last. I will discuss them with you at length during your personal consultation.

Is there someone in my area?

I have customers from all over the United States. If you are interested in flying in for an appointment with me, please call for my all inclusive package price which would include the price of airfare, hotel accommodations and services. If you don't want to travel, I will also come to you. I have customers from as far as Moscow who fly me to them. Anything is possible.
